İhtilâl is a two-player strategy board game about holding power over the people and institutions of Turkey from the 1950s through the 1980s. Each player chooses between the centre-left and centre-right, competing to establish influence across a board representing different cities and regions.

The game combines political positioning with institutional influence. Players manage independent political organizations, seek to infiltrate institutions such as the army and the police, and work to make space for themselves on the board. The objective is to build and maintain power across the people and institutions represented in the game.

Historical developments enter play through Event Cards. These incidents, drawn from the events that shaped Turkish history, steer the game in changing directions. An event may foil carefully made plans or instead create an opportunity, ensuring that both players must respond to developments as they unfold.
