About this board game

Imperios Milenarios is a 2012 civilization game for 4–7 players, with an approximate play time of 150 minutes. Each player leads an ancient civilization through the Ages, expanding territory, improving sciences, and developing industries.

Players use a distinctive chip-based deck- and pool-building system combined with role selection. Instead of drawing action cards, players choose generic actions to strengthen their hands, using chips in four colors. Each color is linked to two possible actions, creating flexible decisions throughout the game.

  • Expand into adjacent regions using fleets or caravans.
  • Trade goods and discoveries with other players.
  • Advance technologies to make chips increasingly efficient.
  • Build Wonders and collect trade goods and treasure.
  • Develop territories and cities while protecting the area around your capital.

As civilizations advance, the map becomes increasingly crowded and players’ hand sizes grow. Technological progress makes actions more efficient, while the expanding world raises the complexity of negotiations and increases military tension.

Interaction in Imperios Milenarios focuses less on direct conflict and more on constant negotiation. Players seek accessible trading cities, beneficial exchanges, and secure buffer zones between their capitals while competing for valuable territories, cities, discoveries, Wonders, and treasure.

The game ends when a number of civilizations reach the Bronze or Iron Ages. Players then score the territories and cities they occupy, along with their discovered technologies, trade goods, built Wonders, and treasure.
