About this board game
Imperium Romanum is a historical strategy game for 1–6 players with a listed play time of 6000 minutes, covering the political, economic, and military conflicts of the Roman world from the first century BC to its fall nearly 700 years later.
With more than 40 scenarios, the game spans centuries of Roman history. Players can explore events ranging from the Mithridatic Wars of 88–63 BC through periods of greatness and decline, ending with the last Romano-Persian War of AD 622–629. Scenario requirements determine whether two to six people play, while an introductory solitaire scenario supports solo play.
The game uses a scale of 50 miles to the hex. Units represent Legions and Fleets, and most leader counters are named to represent individual leaders and their staffs. Instead of assigning units permanent faction colors, all unit counters use a neutral color; leader and control markers identify which faction controls each force.
- Over 40 scenarios, including six new scenarios and three introductory scenarios
- Enlarged maps with province directories
- Cultivated and road status shown for each scenario
- Updated rules with optional military, logistical, and political details
New scenarios include Pompey versus the Pirates (AD 101–102), Trajan’s Parthian War (AD 115–117), and Heraclius and the Last Persian War (AD 622–629). Together, these scenarios present a broad chronological view of Roman conflict and administration.
As an update to Al Nofi’s classic game of the Roman Empire, Imperium Romanum combines a wide historical scope with scenario-based play and detailed rules for military, logistical, economic, and political actions.
