About this board game

Impression is a strategic board game about the history of printing for 1–4 players, with games lasting approximately 120 minutes. Each player manages a manufacturer and aims to become the most successful in the book printing business.

During the action phase, players choose between placing a tile from the common supply onto their typesetter or making a reset. When placing a tile, the number of tiles in the same row and column determines how many steps the tradesman can take. The player also moves one assistant to an adjacent shop and chooses a room.

A reset offers a different route. The player may keep a lead letter or exchange it for resources. Then, if possible, all assistants move into the shop’s secondary room and gain actions, creating another opportunity to develop the manufacturer.

• Develop your own manufacturer and obtain new abilities.
• Travel and build factories.
• Collect tiles and fulfill orders.
• Buy one order and/or contract during the orders and contract phase.
• Progress with your orders during the production phase.

After the action phase, all players enter the orders and contract phase, where each may buy 1 order and/or contract. The game then proceeds to production, allowing players to advance their orders as they build their printing businesses.

With tile placement, resources, assistants, factories, orders, and contracts all contributing to your progress, Impression presents a multi-stage challenge centered on developing an efficient manufacturer. At the end of the game, the player with the most victory points wins.
