About this board game
Invasion: Norway is a two-player campaign game simulating the Norwegian campaign through integrated land, air, and naval warfare. Released in 1995, it uses a streamlined version of the Britain Stands Alone system, with playing time listed at 2–10 hours.
The game portrays warfare across three dimensions while keeping both sides involved. Actions may be detected and answered by the opponent, creating a campaign in which movement, attacks, and operations are constantly shaped by enemy reactions.
Special rules capture distinctive features of the campaign, including the severe Arctic winter, the haphazard mobilization of the Norwegian Army, shipwrecked sailors serving as ground troops, and the impact of determined Norwegian commanders. The game also covers paratroops, coast artillery, frozen-lake airbases, armor and artillery effects, and the special capabilities of ski troops.
- Ground units are represented as battalions and companies, with aircraft shown as squadrons.
- Naval units include individual cruisers and larger ships, plus groups of smaller vessels.
- Variant rules explore options such as earlier Norwegian mobilization, more effective U-Boat attacks, a more aggressive British naval doctrine, and a larger German fifth column.
The game scale is three days per turn and 16 miles (26 kilometers) per hex. Units range from platoons to battalions, alongside individual ships and air squadrons, with German, Norwegian, British, French, and Polish forces included.
Invasion: Norway includes a full-color operational map, a strategic map, 560 counters, a rulebook, QuickStart booklet, scenario and historical booklet, player aid cards, and a ten-sided die. Its medium complexity and medium solitaire suitability provide a focused way to explore this complex campaign.
