About this board game

Iron, Blood, Snow & Mud is a two-player hex-and-counter strategic wargame about the Eastern Front of World War II, designed for games of about 90 minutes. Released in 2023, it offers a quick, easy-to-learn confrontation between the German Wehrmacht and the Soviet Red Army.

The game is deliberately asymmetrical. Germany begins with combat-hardened forces and must drive across vast enemy territories while protecting overstretched supply lines. The Soviet Union starts outnumbered, but gradually builds its strength, using partisans to harass German supply lines and waiting for an opportunity to launch a devastating counteroffensive.

Each game covers four years, with every year divided into three distinct seasons. Mud and Snow restrict the use of certain actions and units, making the changing conditions central to your plans. Movement and movement range depend on the current season, the type of unit, and whether you can create and maintain a chain of units.

  • Two-player strategic warfare set on the Eastern Front
  • Asymmetrical German and Soviet forces with different priorities
  • Seasonal effects from Mud and Snow that shape available actions and units
  • Supply lines, partisans, unit chains, and shifting movement capabilities
  • Sudden victory possibilities for both sides

Germany wins by holding a set of objectives through the end of 1944 or by capturing Stalin. The Soviet player can also achieve a sudden victory by seizing one of three cities initially held by Germany. In Iron, Blood, Snow & Mud, every advance must contend with terrain, weather, logistics, and the mounting pressure of a war that can turn suddenly.
