About this board game
Jewels is a merchant-focused board game for 2–5 players, designed to be played in about 60 minutes. Become the richest trader by collecting Coins through the sale of crafted Gems and Jewels.
The game board is formed by cards arranged in two rows across seven columns. Each column represents a City, with one slot for a Character and one for a Resource. Players move between these cities, paying Coins to travel, while watching the available buyers, threats, and materials.
During each Round, a player performs three Actions selected from six possibilities:
- Travel to another City
- Buy Gems or Gold
- Craft Jewels or Gems
- Interact with a Character
- Refill empty City slots
- Earn a Coin
Gems can be bought from a player’s current City and added to their hand. Before a Gem or Jewel can be sold, it must first be laid down with a crafting action. Crafting a Jewel also requires the correct combination of Gems and Gold, creating opportunities for players to plan their sales and compete for the available Characters.
Interacting with a Character may let a player sell a Jewel or Gem, hire a Mercenary, or fight a Monster. Mercenaries and Monsters can either hinder or favor the players, and every Character involved in an interaction is then discarded.
At the beginning of each Turn, the Cities are repopulated with new Characters and Gems. This phase can also trigger Events. The game ends when a City cannot be refilled at the start of a Turn, and the player with the most Coins wins. In Jewels, careful travel, timely crafting, and profitable sales all contribute to a successful merchant empire.
