About this board game

June 6 is a two-player historical board game about the Normandy landings and the struggle for momentum during June 1944, with an approximately 240-minute play time.

After months of training and preparation, the Great Crusade begins as eight Allied infantry and parachute divisions land in Normandy. On the beaches and among the hedgerows, they face some of the finest—and worst—formations in the German Army.

Except for the near disaster on Omaha Beach, the landings go well. The Allies hold total command of the seas and skies, while both sides begin a race to build up their forces. As June wears on, the Allies start to pull ahead, but turning that advantage into rapid progress proves exceptionally difficult.

The British Second Army is scheduled to take Caen on D-Day, yet fanatical and skillful German resistance holds it short of that objective for the entire month, with heavy losses. In the west, the Americans face weaker opposition and capture the port of Cherbourg, but then become bogged down in the endless maze of hedgerows.

The Allies are under intense pressure to advance quickly, and not only for military reasons. Can the Germans buy enough time to form more reserves and stave off disaster? Can the Allies break the stalemate earlier than they did historically and perhaps win the war sooner?

Released in 1999, June 6 invites two players to explore this pivotal contest and discover how the struggle for Normandy might unfold.
