About this board game

Junta: Las Cartas is a card game for 3–6 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Set on the troubled island of the República de las Bananas, it places players inside a corrupt ruling junta competing to become the wealthiest power broker.

The government receives generous foreign aid from a global superpower each round, but none of that money is meant to improve life on the island. Instead, players work to move as much of it as possible into their own Swiss bank accounts. The player who deposits the most wins the game.

Political influence is only one part of the struggle. Players plot against one another, buy votes, hire assassins, and blow up buildings while maneuvering through the island’s unstable government. At the right moment, a player may even start a coup against the current President in the hope of taking the office.

With its blend of money, political scheming, and sudden violence, Junta: Las Cartas presents a darkly comic vision of a banana republic where the ruling class has little interest beyond filling its own pockets. It is based on Junta and differs from the earlier card game Junta: Viva el Presidente!
