About this board game
Kami-sama is a strategy game for 2–4 players, with sessions lasting about 90 minutes, set in rural Japan during the Edo period. Each player assumes the role of a Kami, a spirit of the land, and competes to become Kami-sama, the chief deity.
In this world, natural and human forces are personified by spirits. A gentle breeze, a flowing river, the glow of the moon, a bountiful harvest, fear, rage, and even death all shape the world around them. These Kami work together to maintain the natural order, while each seeks greater influence over those who worship them.
To pursue victory, you must balance your Favor with the people and your connection to Nature. The game combines several strategic systems as you seek influence across the land and build the patterns that support your plans.
- Asymmetric Kami abilities give each spirit a distinct approach.
- Area control turns influence over the land into a central contest.
- Set collection and pattern building add structure to your choices.
- Light card drafting offers further opportunities to shape your strategy.
Because the Kami have different abilities, every game can invite new strategies and tactics. You will need to weigh your spiritual strengths against the changing struggle for influence, while keeping your relationship with both people and Nature in balance.
With its elegant gameplay and unique rotating board, Kami-sama presents a beautiful and intense strategy experience. Released in 2018, it offers a rich blend of asymmetric powers, area control, collection, and pattern-focused play for groups seeking a thoughtful contest of divine influence.
