About this board game
Kamisado Max is a two-player board game played in about 20 minutes, where players race octagonal “dragon” towers to move one tower to the opposite side of a 10×10 board.
The game shares its central goal with Kamisado, but the larger board introduces new movement rules and more space for routes to develop. Towers move in lines, either straight forward or diagonally forward, making every move part of a broader positional puzzle.
Its defining rule links your available move to your opponent’s previous action. You must move the tower whose color matches the space on which your opponent’s tower ended its previous turn.
- Reach the far side: Be the first player to move one of your dragon towers to the opposite side of the board.
- Follow the color: Move the tower matching the color of the space occupied by your opponent’s previous move.
- Navigate blockades: Enemy and friendly towers can obstruct the routes you want to use.
As play progresses, towers may become blocked by opposing pieces—or by your own. If a tower cannot move, your opponent immediately takes another turn, moving the tower that matches the color of the space occupied by the stymied tower.
That forced continuation keeps the position changing and makes blocked towers especially important. In Kamisado Max, choosing a route is only part of the challenge: you must also consider which color your move will make available next and how the growing tower formations affect future movement.
Released in 2014, Kamisado Max combines a clear race objective with color-driven movement and increasingly constrained paths on its expanded board.
