About this board game
Kingsburg (Third Edition) is a competitive strategy game for 2–5 players, with a playing time of about 120 minutes. Over five years, governors develop border provinces, gather resources, train soldiers, and defend the realm from invading armies.
Each year contains three production seasons for collecting resources, constructing buildings, and preparing troops, followed by a winter invasion. Every fourth turn, each player must face the invading army independently, so the game is competitive rather than cooperative.
The heart of the game is the King’s Council. Players roll influence dice and place them on the King’s advisers and Royal Family members. Different council members provide gold, wood, stone, soldiers, victory points, or other advantages. The player with the lowest total influence chooses first, helping unlucky rolls remain strategically meaningful.
- Influence advisers with dice to claim valuable rewards.
- Build structures and train troops to strengthen your province.
- Defend against an invading army during each winter turn.
- Compete to become the most influential and powerful governor.
The third edition includes the most updated rulebook and expansion modules developed since the first edition, including Soldier tokens, Governor cards, and additional buildings. It also presents a restyled visual design and redesigned components, with updated components using cardboard.
In Kingsburg, careful planning can turn limited resources or an unfortunate roll into a strong position. At the end of the fifth year, the governor who has developed their territory most effectively and pleased King Tritus the most wins.
