About this board game

Knapp Daneben! is a number-placement game for 1–5 players that takes about 20 minutes. Players build collections of numbers that are close to one another without being identical, aiming to create valuable connections across a personal grid.

Each player receives a scoring sheet and claims a different color from the game’s five colored dice. On each turn, one player rolls all five dice once. Everyone combines the number on their die with the number on any other die, then writes the resulting sum in a circle matching either their own die’s color or the color of the other die.

Every scoring sheet contains 25 circles arranged in a 5×5 grid, with each color appearing five times. Placement is important: whenever a newly written sum differs from an adjacent circle by exactly one, the player ticks the box between those circles. These small links can build toward major end-game points.

• Bonus points for selected written numbers

After the twenty-fifth turn, players score each row and column of boxes. A line with zero to four ticked boxes scores 0, 1, 3, 6, or 10 points, respectively. Players also earn 2 points for each 3, 4, 10, or 11 they wrote down, and 4 points for each 2 or 12.

With every roll offering several possible pairings and colored spaces to consider, Knapp Daneben! turns simple sums into a focused puzzle of placement and timing. Whoever scores the most points wins.
