About this board game

KOMBIO is a highly interactive card game for 2–8 players, with games lasting up to 180 minutes. Inspired by a card game with elusive origins tracing back to Central and South America, it combines chance, strategy, memory, speed, and deception.

The goal is simple: finish with the lowest score. Players begin with four face-down cards and take turns drawing from the pile or taking the most recently discarded card. Cards on the table can be shed, viewed, and swapped, making it essential to remember card values and their locations.

A game can be a quick match or a series of rounds, with players setting limits to determine its length. A round ends when someone calls “KOMBIO”, hoping their cards add up to the lowest score. Calling at the right moment is a test of judgment, memory, and nerve.

One of KOMBIO’s standout rules lets players access opponents’ hands at any time. Regardless of whose turn it is, a player may shed a card by grabbing one and correctly matching it to the last discarded card. This creates a tense atmosphere of focus and anticipation, as everyone watches for an opportunity to act.
