About this board game
König Salomons Schatzkammer is a treasure-hunting board game for 2–5 players, with a playing time of approximately 45 minutes. Set at an undiscovered archaeological dig site in southern Sudan, it challenges players to uncover riches while dealing with magic objects and dangerous curses.
The archaeological finds are arranged next to and above one another within the dig site. Digging cards determine where excavation may take place, so the search naturally begins at the top and progresses downward through the layers.
Each discovery presents an important choice. Finds can be exchanged immediately for profit, or they can be kept and used as protection against curses. Deciding when to secure value and when to rely on protection is central to the race for success.
- Explore an undiscovered archaeological site in southern Sudan.
- Use digging cards to determine where excavation can occur.
- Uncover riches, magic objects, and curses arranged in layers.
- Exchange finds for profit or use them to protect against curses.
The winner is the most successful treasure hunter. The game was originally titled Moria and earned Alessandro Saragosa second place in the 2004 Premio Archimede game design competition before being edited for production by the Venice Connection team.
With its layered excavation, changing value of discoveries, and tension between immediate profit and protection, König Salomons Schatzkammer turns an archaeological dig into a focused contest for unimaginable riches.
