About this board game

Koryŏ is a 20-minute card game for 2–4 players, set in a uchronian politico-steampunk universe. Across exactly eight turns, players compete to build influence through carefully chosen families of politicians.

Each turn, everyone simultaneously selects a family of politician from their hand. Players may then play as many cards from that family as they have and wish. Every family has a value from 1 to 9, representing both the number of cards in that family and the victory points awarded to the player who controls it at the end of the game.

Families are more than sources of points. On each turn, a family grants its specific power to the player controlling it, making the effective use of these powers central to success. As the game develops, the number of authorized cards in a player’s council increases their influence, creating a changing contest for control.

• Simultaneous choices: Select a politician family at the same time as your opponents.
• Family control: Play cards to establish influence and pursue valuable families.

Yet choices become more difficult as the game progresses. Although influence rises through the number of authorized cards in your council, the number of cards drawn each turn dwindles. Managing your hand, selecting the right family, and making the most of its power are essential to navigating Koryŏ’s tightening political struggle.
