About this board game
Kuba is a strategic abstract game for two players that plays in about 20 minutes, combining tactical movement, spatial control, and aggressive marble pushing on a 7×7 board.
Each player begins with two groups of marbles positioned in opposite corners. Thirteen red neutral marbles form a diamond at the center, creating a contested area where every move can reshape the position.
On a turn, push one of your marbles—or a line of your marbles—to shift pieces along a row or column. A successful push can eject an opposing marble or a red neutral marble from the board. Whenever any marble is pushed off the edge, you earn an extra move, giving decisive attacks the potential to continue.
- Players: 2
- Playing time: approximately 20 minutes
- Board: 7×7 with recessed holes
- Core challenge: balance tactical movement with control of the central space
There are two paths to victory. Be the first player to push seven red neutral marbles off the board, or eliminate all of your opponent’s movable marbles. These goals create constant tension between attacking the neutral formation and directly restricting your rival.
Simple to learn but rich in tactical depth, Kuba rewards foresight and aggression in equal measure. Its fast-paced play places it in the tradition of abstract pushing games such as Abalone and Push Fight, while its extra-move rule makes every successful ejection especially important.
Released in 1994, Kuba offers a focused head-to-head contest in which positioning, timing, and the pressure of each push determine who controls the board.
