About this board game

Kult is a dark collectible card game for 2–99 players, with a playing time of about 45 minutes. Released in 1995, it is built around the premise that ordinary reality is an illusion concealing a horrible True Reality.

Each player takes the role of an Archon or an Angel of Death. You place beings or regions around you and to the side, creating a Tarot-like layout. These cards become the stage for influence cards, spells, and sudden commandments that can change the situation immediately.

The central struggle is over the population. On your turn, you attempt to move population counters from your outer cards to your inner cards, and eventually onto the card representing you. In a two-player game, nine population markers are in play, and the first player to sway five wins.

  • Play as an Archon or an Angel of Death.
  • Build a layout of beings and regions in a Tarot-like arrangement.
  • Use influence cards, spells, and commandments.
  • Move population counters toward your own card.
  • Survive attacks as your beings battle one another.

Influence is only part of the contest. Along the way, your beings can throw nearly anything at opposing forces, turning the struggle for population into a hostile confrontation filled with supernatural conflict.

With its grim premise and dark, highly graphic cards, Kult is designed for players seeking an unusually intense and mature CCG experience rather than a game for children.
