About this board game
La Bataille de France, 1940 is a two-player tactical wargame with a listed playing time of 120 minutes, recreating the German invasion of France and the dramatic battles of the 1940 Blitzkrieg.
Players command either Allied or Axis forces, with solitaire play also supported. Based on the War Storm Series system, the game presents company-level combat involving infantry, tanks, artillery, anti-tank guns, vehicles, and aircraft. Scenarios focus on the tactical battles of the Western Front, where combined arms and effective leadership are essential.
The game uses a simultaneous “WE GO” system, combining turn-based structure with the feeling of real time. Players activate officers to move and coordinate units, fire, launch assaults, request artillery or air support, lay smoke screens, and influence morale checks. A turn represents approximately 12–15 minutes of action and ends after both players complete their activations.
- Scale: companies, groups of 3–5 vehicles, and map hexes representing approximately 150–200 meters
- Scenarios: 12 scenarios on six scenario cards
- Terrain: four isomorphic maps that can be combined in numerous ways
- Special actions: entrenching, improving positions, clearing wire, creating roadblocks, using fortifications, and more
La Bataille de France, 1940 adapts the original War Storm Series system for World War II, adding rules suited to the period. With medium complexity and strong solitaire suitability, it offers detailed tactical engagements while retaining a manageable structure for repeated battles and varied scenarios.
