About this board game

La Bataille de Lützen is a detailed Napoleonic battlefield simulation for 1–3 players, with games lasting about 240 minutes. Each turn represents 20 minutes of real time, while every hex covers 100 meters of ground.

In May 1813, Prussian and Russian forces attempt to ambush the French army as it advances in road march. Their attack catches the French by surprise, but the expected weak flank guard is replaced by the strong divisions of Souham and Girard. As the battle intensifies, Napoleon and roughly 100,000 French and allied troops move to support the threatened forces.

The French player must rapidly consolidate scattered units, compensate for inadequate cavalry, and manage a large number of raw recruits. The Allied player must strike decisively before Napoleon can react and bring reinforcements into the battle. Both sides face the tactical dilemmas of the historical commanders, with the outcome depending on their skill.

The rules are the Lützen version of the award-winning system developed by the Marshall Enterprises Household. They cover the full range of features associated with the Napoleonic battlefield and support multiplayer games as well as solitaire study.

  • Two 22″ × 34″ game maps
  • More than 1,000 die-cut counters
  • Rulebook with historical commentary
  • Organizational displays, charts, and tables
  • Strength scale of 50–100 men per strength point

With regimental and brigade-sized strength points and a 20-minute turn scale, La Bataille de Lützen presents the first major battle of Napoleon’s 1813 campaign as a tense contest of timing, concentration, and battlefield decision-making.
