About this board game

L’Art de la Guerre is a miniatures rules system for 2–4 players, covering battles from early Antiquity in 3000 BC through the end of the Middle Ages in 1500 AD. A game typically takes around 120 minutes, with each player commanding an army of roughly twenty units.

The system is designed for miniature collections of many sizes, supporting figures from 6 mm to 28 mm, as well as 1/72nd-scale plastic soldiers. Its basing system is fully compatible with DBx, allowing existing armies based for that system to be used.

The rulebook provides army lists for a broad range of forces from the Ancient and Medieval periods, along with the pre-Columbian Americas. This gives players a substantial historical span to explore within one set of rules.

  • Rules for battles from 3000 BC to 1500 AD
  • Support for miniature scales from 6 mm to 28 mm
  • Compatibility with DBx basing
  • Army lists covering Ancient, Medieval, and pre-Columbian forces

Originally released in 2008, L’Art de la Guerre received an entirely revised fourth edition in 2021. The fourth edition includes 300 army lists, expanding the historical armies available in the rulebook.

Whether using existing DBx-compatible collections or building forces in another supported scale, L’Art de la Guerre offers a single framework for staging miniature battles across thousands of years of military history.
