About this board game

Last Lantern is a cooperative polyomino game for 2 to 4 players, with a playing time of about 30 minutes. Across seven to nine rounds, players puzzle their way through the canopy toward a dimming lantern while facing the threat of isolating fog.

Each round, players simultaneously choose one set made up of a tile and a token. They do this without communicating, making every choice part of a shared puzzle. The selected tile is placed on the path before you, moving you closer to the goal.

Tokens provide the other half of the challenge. As you gain three different tokens, you unlock powerful abilities connected to the familiars who help you resist the fog. Careful choices and an understanding of the available powers are essential as the group works toward the lantern.

Rather than relying on direct discussion, Last Lantern asks players to develop a shared language through observation and deduction. Analyze the board state and the tokens in hand to discover how your companions are thinking, then use that understanding to improve your group dynamic with each play.

  • Cooperative play: Work together toward a common goal.
  • Polyomino puzzles: Place tiles along the path to advance.
  • Set collection and bag building: Gain and manage tokens that activate abilities.
  • Silent coordination: Make simultaneous choices without communicating directly.

As the journey continues, the team may discover a way to ward off the fog forever. With its combination of spatial tile placement, token powers, and indirect communication, Last Lantern offers a compact cooperative experience for players seeking a thoughtful challenge.
