About this board game

Le Donjon de Naheulbeuk is a cooperative dungeon-crawling game for 3–6 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. The adventurers must recover the last of Gladeulfeurha’s statuettes and defeat the powerful sorcerer Zangdar.

Each player controls a distinct character with their own class, skills, personality, and special abilities. The party includes the stupid barbarian, belching ogre, haughty sorceress, dumb elf, coward thief, ever-singing bard, cranky dwarf, and a ranger who wants to be a leader.

Every game uses 14 of the 56 available dungeon rooms. In each room, the group faces choices, rewards, battles, or one of eight different skill checks. Many challenges use Destiny Tiles and a special timer, turning the table into the stage for frantic physical tests.

  • Balance and climbing: keep a Destiny Tile in place while moving or standing on a chair.
  • Dexterity and speed: build a house of cards, or slap a tile into the air and catch it.
  • Precision and intelligence: throw tiles into a box or play a memory game.
  • Coordination and stamina: pass tiles around the table or balance them while standing on one leg.

Timed battles use Letter Cards that players exchange to spell character-specific attack words. Each hero brings a different twist: the sorceress casts spells, the barbarian can misspell a letter, and the bard and ranger can affect other players’ hands. Punch symbols can also cause wounds.

Gold and experience let characters reach level 3 and unlock stronger attacks or skills. The party can rest up to three times to recover wounds, while a fallen character may return as the same hero or continue as a new one. In Le Donjon de Naheulbeuk, victory comes from defeating Zangdar in the fourteenth room.
