Legendary Forests

About this board game

Legendary Forests is a 20-minute multiplayer solitaire tile-laying game for 2–5 players, first released in 2017. Each player builds an individual landscape from the same sequence of tiles, but chooses independently where to place each one.

Every player begins with the same starting tile. One player becomes the Leader, shuffles their tiles face down, removes five without looking, and reveals the remaining tiles one at a time. After calling out the number on each tile, the Leader has everyone place that identical tile in their own tableau.

Tiles must connect with matching adjacent edges, turning each landscape into a personal connection puzzle. When a tile with a red number appears, players place it and then add a monument tile from the center of the playing area. The player holding the God piece draws first, and the piece then passes clockwise.

• Build your own landscape while responding to the same tiles as every other player.
• Place monuments across areas in three monument colors and four landscape colors.
• Create “cookies” by joining matching half-circles along tile edges.
• Score enclosed monument areas more highly than areas with unconnected half-circles.

After everyone has placed 20 tiles, scoring begins. For each area containing one of your monuments, a completely enclosed area scores 2 points per cookie. If the area has any unconnected half-circles, it instead scores 1 point per cookie.

With its shared tile reveals and individual placement decisions, Legendary Forests gives every player the same information while producing a different landscape at every table position. The player with the most points wins, and multiple sets can be combined to accommodate any number of players as long as enough sets are available.
