About this board game

Lightning: Midway – June 4th to June 6th, 1942 is a two-player historical card game that recreates the famous World War II battle between US and Japanese forces in around 30 minutes.

Each player takes the role of an opposing fleet commander. The US player risks three aircraft carriers to defend control of Midway Atoll, while the Japanese player risks four carriers in an attempt to take it. The battle focuses on finding the enemy, fixing its location, and launching attacks at the right moment.

The atoll and each aircraft carrier are represented by individual cards. Players throw reconnaissance cards to search for and fix the opposing fleet’s location, then play cards representing attacking squadrons. Some attacks find their targets, while others fail to do so. The enemy may also appear over your fleet without warning, keeping both commanders under pressure.
