About this board game

Lockup: A Roll Player Tale is a competitive worker-allocation game for 1–5 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. Set during the Dragul Invasion of Nalos, it places you in command of captured minions imprisoned in Kulbak, where enchanted gates and Construct guards make escape nearly impossible.

Across six rounds, your goal is to establish the most powerful crew in the prison. Gather goons, craft contraband, collect resources, and build items to increase your reputation, while keeping your suspicion low enough to avoid the guards’ attention.

Each round is divided into three phases that combine hidden information, area competition, resource management, and worker placement:

  • Roll Call: Take turns placing your minions in different prison locations. Some are placed face up to reveal their strength, while others remain face down, hiding their strength from opponents.
  • Lights Out: Locations with minions are scored according to each crew’s strength. Players gain resources and may recruit goons or build items, with the strongest crews earning the greatest rewards.
  • Patrol Phase: New resources are added to the board as guards patrol the dungeon. Players with high suspicion are raided, and their chambers are searched.

Choose among gnolls, kobolds, bugbears, goblins, or insectoids as you develop your squadron of captured Dragul. Competition for prison locations can bring valuable resources and powerful recruits, but careless decisions may draw unwanted attention from the guards.

At the end of the sixth round, the player with the highest reputation wins. With its combination of concealed strength, strategic placement, recruitment, crafting, and escalating prison pressure, Lockup brings the Roll Player universe into a focused contest for influence inside Kulbak.
