About this board game
Loot is a pirate card game for 2–8 players that plays in about 20 minutes. Players send trading ships on voyages, attack them with pirate ships, defend them with their own fleets, and compete to collect the most gold coins.
The game includes 78 cards featuring trading ships, pirate ships, captains, and an admiral. Its 25 trading ships are worth different amounts of gold, ranging from 2 to 8, making some prizes more valuable than others.
- 48 pirate ships in four colors, with values of 1–4 skulls
- 25 trading ships worth 2–8 gold coins
- Four pirate captains, one in each color, to help win battles
- One admiral to help defend trading ships
When a trading ship is sent out, other players can attack it with pirate ships. The player with the most skulls played against that ship captures it if they keep the lead for one full pass around the table. Meanwhile, players can use their own pirates to defend their traders while seeking spoils elsewhere.
Loot ends when the draw deck is depleted and one player has no cards left. The player with the most gold coins wins. The game supports individual play for 2–5 players, while partner play allows games with up to 6 or 8 players.
Released in 1992, Loot combines hand management, shifting attacks, and direct competition over cargo in a compact pirate-themed card game. Its mix of valuable trade ships and competing pirate fleets keeps every voyage contested until the battle is decided.
