About this board game
Lord of the Rings: The Adventure Deck Game is a solitaire game for one player that takes about 5 minutes to play. You are Frodo, racing across Middle-earth to reach Mount Doom, cast the One Ring into the volcano’s lava, and save Middle Earth.
Your journey cannot last more than 25 days, so every turn presents a difficult choice. Treat each card as a crossroads and choose where to travel: up, left, and/or right. Directions indicate how many cards you must draw, with destination numbers ranging from 1 to 5.
Drawing farther can help you finish the quest within the time limit, but it also exposes Frodo to greater danger. Each card has an aggression number from 0 to 3. Add the aggression numbers of every card drawn that turn to determine the attack value; if it exceeds Frodo’s wounds, you immediately lose. Only the final card’s effect is resolved unless a card says otherwise.
- Decide whether to rest and recover wounds or continue the journey.
- Use one equipped item per turn, including potions and other helpful equipment.
- Call on allies such as Aragorn and Legolas while facing Trolls and the Nazgul.
- Use the Ring before drawing to treat all aggression numbers as 0, while advancing the Witch King Track.
The Ring offers powerful protection, but every use brings the Witch King closer. You may also search for Aragorn to help against this threat, making each decision matter. With its central push-your-luck mechanic, Lord of the Rings: The Adventure Deck Game challenges you to balance rapid progress against the attacks waiting on the road to Mount Doom.
