About this board game
Lords of War: Templars versus Undead is a strategic card game for two players that plays in around 30 minutes. Set on a gridded battlefield, it pits two complete fantasy armies against one another in dynamic tactical combat.
Each player draws from a 36-card army deck and manages a hand of six units. On a turn, one card is placed onto the board; most units must be positioned adjacent to an enemy, while ranged and spear units have different placement flexibility. The newly played cards then enter an elimination phase, where attacks and defenses determine which units survive.
Every unit features a distinctive pattern of attack arrows along its edges and corners. These arrows show which adjacent cards it attacks and how much damage it deals, while each card’s defense value determines how much opposing pressure it can withstand. After combat, the active player can either draw a new card or retrieve a unit that has not engaged in combat that turn.
- Templars: heavily armoured infantry supported by mobile palisades.
- Undead: a varied army of defensive and offensive units, including zombies that roam across the battlefield.
- Moving units: a new feature for the series, adding further tactical possibilities.
The battle continues until one player eliminates twenty units or four commanders. With its emphasis on positioning, attack formations, heavy defence, and carefully timed retrievals, Lords of War: Templars versus Undead offers a compact but deep head-to-head challenge.
The game is compatible with Elves versus Lizardmen and Orcs versus Dwarves, allowing every Lords of War army to battle one another. Players can also combine factions into mercenary decks using the series’ strict ranking system for tournament play.
