About this board game

Lovecraft Letter is a Lovecraftian card game for 2–6 players that plays in about 15 minutes. Released in 2017, it combines the card-play system of Love Letter with the mysterious and unsettling world of H.P. Lovecraft.

Set in the confusion that followed World War I, the game places you among strange figures, unreadable letters, sudden disappearances, and unexplained events. Relying on your connections, you investigate the incidents while unknowingly drawing closer to frightening truths.

The game includes the standard sixteen cards from Love Letter alongside new versions featuring powerful insanity abilities. When an insanity card is in your discard pile, you are considered insane for the current round. From then on, insanity cards can be played for either their regular effect or their special insanity power, giving you additional choices at a dangerous cost.

• Play familiar Love Letter-style card tactics in a Lovecraftian setting.
• Use regular powers or riskier insanity powers.
• Face a sanity check at the start of turns while insanity cards remain in front of you.
• Win tokens based on whether you finish a round sane or insane.

During a sanity check, you draw as many cards from the deck as the number of insanity cards in front of you. Drawing one or more insanity cards eliminates you from the round, making every additional taste of forbidden power a serious gamble.

A round ends when one player remains or when the deck runs out and the player with the highest single card wins. The winner receives a token reflecting their state, and collecting enough of the right type wins the game. Release Cthluhu at the right time for another path to victory.

In Lovecraft Letter, you must decide whether to act as an investigator working to prevent dark schemes or become a disciple of insanity seeking to guide the world toward destruction.
