About this board game

Lusitania is a 2017 board game for 2–4 players with a playing time of 20 minutes, in which Roman generals recruit and equip an army for Julius Caesar.

Alarms ring in Rome after the Empire’s army loses another battle in Lusitania. Caesar calls on his four best generals to gather the forces needed to face the people who resist Roman rule. Each player takes the role of one of these generals and competes for the greatest riches.

The aim is to recruit an army worth 20 or more victory points. Your forces can include several distinct types of soldiers, each represented in the game’s recruitment challenge:

  • Legionaries
  • Doctors
  • Gunners
  • Barbaric mercenaries

The game ends immediately when the first player recruits an army whose score reaches 20 or more victory points. However, the musician card can also bring the contest to a close. If it appears on the training field—either from the draw pile or through a player trading it for a card on the field—the player with the most victory points wins.

If players are tied, the advantage goes to the tied player who recruited fewer barbaric mercenaries. Should the tie still remain, victory goes to the tied player whose turn is last, meaning the player farthest from the commander card. In Lusitania, every recruitment decision can matter before the final card appears.
