About this board game
Luxor is a 2–4 player board game from 2001, with a play time of approximately 45 minutes, in which players excavate valuable mummies from the pyramids.
Players place tiles into the vertical board, shaping the route through the pyramid. Each match allows a player to maneuver their explorers around the pillars, bringing them closer to the discoveries hidden within.
Scarabs are central to the excavation process. When a player gets three scarabs in front of a pillar, they can excavate a mummy from that pillar. This creates a clear objective as players work to position their explorers and gather the required scarabs.
- Place tiles into the vertical board.
- Maneuver explorers around the pillars.
- Collect three scarabs in front of a pillar to excavate a mummy.
- Seek the most valuable mummies by timing excavations carefully.
The order of excavation matters. Mummies excavated later in a pillar are more valuable than those excavated earlier, giving players a reason to consider not only whether they can claim a mummy, but also when to do so.
With its combination of tile placement, explorer movement, scarab collection, and escalating mummy value, Luxor focuses on positioning and excavation timing. Players compete to uncover the most valuable mummies from the pyramids in a concise game designed for two to four participants.
