About this board game

M is an abstract strategy game for 2–6 players, with a playing time of about 30 minutes. Players lay tiles with the goal of making each tile border as many other tiles as possible.

Tile placement and color management are central to the game. Every placement contributes to the evolving arrangement, while players also collect tiles in two colors that support their score.

Not every color is helpful, however. Players must avoid the other colors, as they can negate your score. This creates a clear tension between building strong connections and carefully managing which colors enter your collection.

  • Abstract strategy focused on tile placement
  • Build borders with as many other tiles as possible
  • Collect two colors of tiles
  • Avoid colors that negate your score

With its combination of spatial positioning and color-based scoring, M offers a focused strategic challenge without relying on a theme. The central objective is easy to understand, but each choice involves balancing the desire for more tile borders against the need to avoid harmful colors.

Released in 2000, M is suited to groups ranging from two to six players. Its approximately 30-minute playing time makes it a compact choice for players looking for an abstract tile-laying game built around connection and score management.
