About this board game
Macroscope is a deduction and guessing game for 2–6 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. Using a curious box-shaped device, players gradually reveal hidden black-and-white line drawings and try to identify them before too much of the image is exposed.
The Macroscope contains 200 double-sided cards, each featuring a line drawing, with cardboard tokens covering the device’s holes. On your turn, roll the two dice and remove one or two tokens matching the numbers rolled. Each removed token reveals another part of the topmost card through a hole in the box.
Once you think you recognize the image, you may make a guess. Pull the card from the device to check your answer: a correct guess earns points based on the number of tokens removed, while an incorrect guess loses points. The fewer holes you need to open, the greater the potential reward.
- Players: 2–6
- Play time: about 30 minutes
- Contents: a box-shaped device, two dice, cardboard tokens, and 200 double-sided cards
- Goal: score the most points after ten rounds
Every partially revealed drawing creates a challenge of visual perception. Can a few swirling lines suggest a rhino, a pizza, or something entirely different? Decide when the image is recognizable enough to risk a guess, balancing confidence against the chance to earn a higher score.
With its unusual viewing device and simple reveal-and-guess system, Macroscope turns familiar objects into intriguing puzzles. After ten rounds, the player with the most points wins.
