About this board game

Mage Noir is a strategy card game for two players, designed for dueling deck-building play sessions of around 30 minutes. Players take the role of true Mages and battle with the power of the elements.

The game focuses on crafting spells. Combine lesser spells to create stronger ones, then decide whether to cast them for immediate effects or save them for a potentially game-winning combo. The system is simple, logical, and thematic, bringing fireballs, crashing waves, devastating tornadoes, and powerful magical abilities to the table.

  • Elemental spell crafting: Combine lesser spells into more powerful creations.
  • Shared Mana: Mana remains at the center of the table, and every action changes the available amount.
  • Deck-building duel: Build and use your deck while attempting to outplay your opponent.
  • Two paths to defeat: Reduce your opponent’s Health Points to zero, or make them draw when they have no cards left in their deck.

Mana is separate from your deck, so you do not have to rely on drawing the resources needed to cast your spells. At the beginning of your turn, you claim some of the shared Mana, but the remainder may go to your opponent, making each decision affect both sides of the duel.

Both players begin with 20 Health Points. In Mage Noir, victory comes from reducing your opponent’s total to zero, while a player who must draw a card without a deck to draw from loses the game.
