Mage Wars Academy is a two-player board game with a 30-minute play time, featuring head-to-head combat between two mages to determine who will be victorious.

Designed as a two-player starter set, it includes two mages and two spellbooks. Its new boardless gameplay design makes Mage Wars Academy more portable and fast-playing than Mage Wars Arena, while preserving the focus on magical combat.

The game offers a direct contest between two spellcasting characters. Players face one another in a battle where the outcome is decided through the spells available in their spellbooks.

The spell cards included in Academy are compatible with the cards from Mage Wars Arena, also known as Mage Wars. This compatibility lets the two games share spell cards, connecting the Academy set with the broader Mage Wars experience.

Mage Wars Academy can also expand beyond its standard two-player format. Multiple core sets, or future expansions, can be combined to create games for three or four players.

Released in 2015, Mage Wars Academy presents the Mage Wars style in a streamlined, boardless format. It is a portable starting point for two-player mage combat and a foundation for larger games when additional core sets or expansions are available.
