Maracaibo: La Armada

About this expansion

Maracaibo: La Armada is a mini-expansion for Maracaibo for 1–4 players, with a listed play time of 150 minutes. It brings the three dominant nations—Spain, England, and France—more directly into the game.

With La Armada, players can reveal their true colors as a Spanish, English, or French Commodore. Each of the three new Career cards focuses on one of these powers and includes a goal requiring a number of locations to be controlled by the corresponding nation.

This national focus can disturb the balance between the competing powers as players pursue their Career goals. The expansion also adds nine new Project cards, each linked to a specific nation.

• 3 new Career cards: English, French, and Spanish
• 9 new B Project cards linked to specific nations
• 3 corrected cards for the core game
• 1 replacement Captain card for the first edition

Alongside its new content, La Armada provides corrected cards for the base game. The corrected cards include Adventure and both Martyr cards, addressing a misprint in the first edition. A replacement Captain card with a value of 13 Doubloons is also included because part of the card was missing in that edition.

Compact in scope but closely tied to the rivalry among the three nations, Maracaibo: La Armada adds new objectives and nation-specific Projects while also offering useful first-edition corrections. It is designed as an addition to the Maracaibo experience rather than a standalone game.
