About this board game

Mare Balticum is a board game for 3–5 players, designed to be played in about 30 minutes. Released in 2011, it puts each player in the role of a captain leading a fleet of fishing boats across the choppy waters of the Baltic Sea.

Your task is to decide what to seek from the sea and how to turn those finds into a fortune. You can pursue valuable fish, search for beautiful Baltic amber, or change your plans as you work to make the most of the available opportunities.

The sea offers several possible catches, each giving captains a different focus for their efforts:

• Schools of herring
• Flounders from deep in the mud
• Beautiful Baltic amber

Whatever you choose to collect, catching goods is only part of the challenge. Captains must deliver their goods to the appropriate ports and sell them, turning the results of their voyages into wealth.

Time is also an important consideration. The Baltic waters will eventually freeze when winter arrives, so every captain must make the most of the season before sailing and fishing are no longer possible. The winner is the player who handles these tasks most effectively and makes the greatest fortune.
