About this board game

Marrakech is a board game for 2–4 players that takes about 30 minutes to play, with each player competing as a rug salesperson.

Everyone begins with an equal amount of money and the same number of carpets. On your turn, first decide whether to rotate Assam 90 degrees. Then roll the six-sided die and move him forward according to the result: the die shows 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, or 4.

Assam follows the board’s path, turning along the edge and continuing into the next row when necessary. Where he stops matters. If he lands on another player’s carpet, you must pay that player one coin for every square in the contiguous carpet area of that color.

After resolving any payment, place one of your carpets orthogonally adjacent to Assam. Carpets may not be placed directly over another carpet, so every placement adds to the changing arrangement on the board.

  • Rotate Assam, then roll and move him.
  • Pay a rival when Assam lands on their contiguous carpet area.
  • Place one carpet next to Assam without overlapping another carpet.

The game ends after all players have played all of their carpets. Final scores combine remaining money with carpet coverage: each player receives one coin for every visible square of their carpets.

The player with the most coins wins Marrakech. If players are tied, the winner is the one with the most visible carpet area. Released in 2007, Marrakech combines movement, payments, and careful carpet placement in a concise contest for wealth and space.
