About this expansion

Mascarade: The Damned is a character card for 2–13 players, designed for games lasting around 30 minutes. Published in Spielbox no. 4 in 2013, it is also included among the characters in the Mascarade Expansion.

The Damned introduces a distinctive risk tied directly to revealing a role. If the player holding the Damned reveals that role, they are eliminated from the game. This makes the act of confirming the character carry an immediate and decisive consequence.

The card also interacts specifically with two other roles. If the Inquisitor or the Usurper selects the Damned as the target of their ability, the Inquisitor or Usurper is eliminated instead.

  • Revealing the Damned eliminates its player.
  • If targeted by the Inquisitor, the Inquisitor is eliminated.
  • If targeted by the Usurper, the Usurper is eliminated.
  • Afterward, the former Damned becomes the new Inquisitor or Usurper.

This replacement effect means that targeting the Damned can change who holds one of those roles. The former Damned does not simply remain in play under the same identity; they take over as the new Inquisitor or Usurper when that role’s ability triggers the exchange.

As a compact addition to the Mascarade character lineup, The Damned centers on elimination and role succession. Its rules are concise, but its interaction with the Inquisitor and Usurper gives this character a clearly defined place in the game.
