About this board game
Mask of Moai is a cooperative VR board game for 2–6 players that takes about 60 minutes to play. Using a smartphone and the Moai-shaped VR goggles, players explore the interior of a submerged temple and work together to create an accurate map.
One player views the temple through the goggles, then explains the scenery to the rest of the team. Together, you must reconstruct the layout using submerged tiles, land tiles, wall pieces, and connection pieces. Clear communication and careful memory are essential as the expedition team attempts to chart the ruins.
Three strange creatures called Rapa Rapas are hidden inside the temple. When a player finds one, they must remember its appearance and use the supplied clay to create its shape. Once the answer is checked, the clay Rapa Rapa is moved on the map.
The team wins by completing the map correctly and gathering all three Rapa Rapas in one place so they can be rescued. The expedition has only enough remaining energy for a single attempt to gather the creatures and take them into space, adding urgency to the mission.
