About this board game

Mauwi is a 20-minute card game for 2–7 players, in which cats become mighty warriors to protect the secret of their nine lives. Attack, defend, strengthen your ranks, and create three mauw in three different columns to win.

On your turn, play one card in one of several ways. You can begin a new place, with a maximum of four places, or reinforce an existing place by playing the same card or combining cards to reach a total of nine and create a mauw.

Warriors add direct interaction to the game. Use one to attack another player, steal a card, and make a combination. Alternatively, play a spirit with value 0 to block another player’s column and interfere with their plans.

• Attack another player with a warrior to steal a card.
• Block an opponent’s column with a spirit.

After every turn, draw a new card so that you always have four cards in hand. The game ends when a player has created three mauw in three columns or places, making careful placement and timely combinations essential.

Mauwi is a new version of Mauw, introducing new cards such as the Kiwi, Owl, and Lizard alongside new play mechanics. Set in a world where Maori Spirits found cats exceptional after their arrival in New Zealand in 1640, it combines themed card play with tactical attacks, defensive blocks, and a race to complete your three mauw.
