Medieval Academy

About this board game

Medieval Academy is a fast, dynamic family card game for 1–5 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. As students at a chivalry school, you will train for six months while competing to earn the most points and win knighthood from King Arthur.

Each round, players draft cards and decide when to use them. The rules are intuitive: play a red 3 card, for example, and move 3 spaces on the red track. Because everyone plays at the same time, the game stays fluid while keeping players closely involved in one another’s choices.

Your training covers several areas of medieval life, each offering opportunities to gain or lose points:

• Compete in jousts and tournaments.
• Perfect your studies in the codices of the library.
• Undertake perilous quests in service of the fair king.

The challenge in Medieval Academy comes from judging the right moment to act. You must weigh short-term risks during each round against long-term plans for the whole game, making every draft and card play matter.

The 2023 edition remains essentially the original game, with a few minor changes. The reverse side of the board offers a more strategic and challenging version for experienced players, while a solo mode provides different levels of difficulty. At the end of the semester, the student with the most points is knighted by King Arthur himself.
