About this board game
Milito is a card-based, diceless wargame for two players, with battles taking about 45 minutes. Released in 2019, it puts each player in command of an army from the Ancient World, including Republican Rome, Carthage, Alexandrian Macedonia, and Achaemenid Persia.
Every card in your hand represents one of your army’s units. These units reflect the strengths and weaknesses of their historical counterparts, with ratings for speed, attack strength, defense strength, and other battlefield modifiers. Play unit cards to contest the battlefield and decide when your forces should advance, skirmish, maneuver, or commit to the main battle line.
- Use light troops to skirmish and keep the enemy at bay.
- Exploit cavalry’s maneuverability to seek tactical advantages.
- Advance well-armored infantry to drive opposing units away.
- Employ flank attacks and army-specific leaders to deepen your tactical options.
Leader cards provide combat bonuses and distinctive abilities, but their quality varies: not every leader is an Alexander or Hannibal. Choosing the right moment to commit powerful units can be just as important as choosing which troops to play.
Victory goes to the commander who captures three terrain areas. With army combinations shaped by history and decisions driven by cards rather than dice, Milito focuses on positioning, timing, and tactical judgment in a compact ancient battle.
