Mini-Mutabo

About this board game

Mini-Mutabo is a 3–6 player party game played in about 45 minutes, where sentences become drawings and drawings become new sentences in a constantly changing story chain.

This standalone expansion for Mutabo adds 100 new cards and 90,000 possible “stories.” The box does not include pencils or paper, so players who want to play Mini-Mutabo independently must supply those themselves.

Players use two different types of cards to create a sentence. One type presents six subjects, while the other presents six verbs and objects. Drawing one card of each type gives players one of 36 possible combinations to turn into a sentence.

• Write the sentence on a sheet of paper.
• Pass the paper to a neighbor, who draws what they read.
• Fold back the sentence and pass the paper onward.
• The next player writes what they see, continuing the chain.

As the paper moves around the table, the original idea transforms through alternating writing and drawing. The result is a sequence of unexpected interpretations, with each player contributing to the developing “story.”

Mini-Mutabo is usually played without a victory condition, keeping the focus on the evolving creations and shared amusement. If the group wants to choose a winner, players can vote for the most creative “sequels.”

With its new card combinations and simple pass-and-transform structure, Mini-Mutabo offers a self-contained way to continue the Mutabo experience—provided you have paper and pencils ready for play.
