About this board game

Molt soroll per un rei is a 1-player solitaire game, with an approximate play time of 60 minutes, about the reign of Peter the Great of Aragon from 1276 to 1285.

Based on Darin A. Leviloff’s States of Siege system, the game places you in command of a kingdom surrounded by danger. You must respond to threats from the Catalan and Aragonese nobility, Andalusian revolts, and the struggle for dominance in Sicily and Naples after the Sicilian Vespers.

The situation becomes even more challenging as Charles of Anjou contests your position and Pope Martin IV proclaims a crusade against the Crown, launched by Philip III of France. Your goal is to withstand these pressures and protect Barcelona throughout the reign.

Each turn, draw a card to determine how many threats are activated and how many actions are available. Activated threats advance toward Barcelona, while your actions let you respond to the crisis in several ways:

  • Try to move threats back.
  • Improve the stance of the nobility.
  • Improve your relationship with the papacy.

The tension builds as every card can bring danger closer while also providing opportunities to act. If an enemy threat enters Barcelona at any time, you lose. If you draw the last card in the deck, you win.

With its focused solo format and historical setting, Molt soroll per un rei turns the reign of Peter the Great into a concentrated struggle against internal unrest, foreign enemies, and religious opposition.
