About this board game

Monasterium is a strategic board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes, set in the early Middle Ages. In a beautiful valley where five monasteries have been founded to spread the Word of God, players compete to build the greatest reputation for their cathedral school.

Each player takes the role of a cathedral school dean responsible for the novices entrusted to them. You must accommodate these novices in the monasteries and assign them according to their talents. Their destinations may include monastery buildings, the chapel, or the cloister, with each placement helping you develop your school’s standing.

Monasterium features an innovative dice mechanism that presents new challenges throughout the game. The intercession of influential personalities and other monks can also support your plans as you work to earn fame and glory.

  • Place novices in monastery buildings, chapels, and cloisters.
  • Fulfill the special missions of the monasteries.
  • Build on your cathedral’s stained-glass windows to enhance your school’s fame.

The game unfolds over a three-year novitiate. When this period ends, the dean who has earned the most fame and glory with their helpers will be revealed.

A double-sided game board supports different player counts: one side is designed for two players, while the other is used for games with three or four. With its medieval setting, changing dice challenges, monastery missions, and multiple paths toward recognition, Monasterium offers a focused strategic experience for groups of two to four.
