About this board game

Monster’s Coffee is a 15-minute game for 2–5 players, released in 2020, where players choose monsters to approach the counter and compete for the most coffee.

Humans cannot get served at Monster Cafe, so success depends on selecting the right monster families. To begin, choose five families from the twelve available, then shuffle their cards. Each player receives a hand of ten monster cards, or twelve cards in a two-player game.

Before play begins, each player secretly places three cards face down to create a back line. The remaining monsters form a face-up front line, giving players visible options to choose from while keeping part of their plan hidden.

  • Choose one face-up front-line monster on your turn.
  • Move it to the center of the table.
  • Trigger that monster’s power.

As players move monsters toward the center, their front lines gradually shrink. A round ends as soon as every player has only three monsters remaining in their front line.

Players then distribute coffee tokens family by family. Whoever has the most monsters of a particular family earns coffee tokens equal to the number of that family in the center. Monsters in the back line count double, making those hidden choices especially important when control of a family is closely contested.

After multiple rounds, the player with the most collected coffee wins. With its face-up choices, hidden back-line cards, monster powers, and family-based scoring, Monster’s Coffee turns every selection into a race for the best brew.
