About this board game

Monumental is a civilization-building strategy game for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Each player guides a civilization through the growth of its city, represented by a 3×3 grid of cards drawn from a starting civilization deck.

On each turn, you must choose which city cards to activate, because you cannot use them all at once. This creates constant tension as you weigh the resources you need, including Science, Military, Production, Culture, and Gold. The resources you gather can be used to acquire cards from a shared pool, adding improved buildings, technologies, wonders, and other advances to your civilization deck.

As your deck develops, increasingly efficient card combinations can help your civilization reach new heights. The common card pool also drives the game forward: cards are discarded when players do not acquire them, and the available cards progress through different eras. Medieval cards are stronger than Classical cards, while Industrial cards offer even greater power at a higher cost.

• City management: Select the most valuable cards from your 3×3 city grid each turn.
• Deck development: Acquire buildings, technologies, and wonders to improve your civilization.
• Era progression: Compete for increasingly powerful cards as the game advances.
• Conquest: Move armies across a modular board and challenge barbarian inhabitants in unoccupied Provinces.

Conquering Provinces can provide resources from defeated barbarians and victory points for holding the territory. In Monumental, careful choices in your city, smart investment in your deck, and successful expansion all contribute to your legacy.

At the end of the game, the player with the most impressive civilization is remembered for all time—and wins.
