About this board game
Moon is a board game for 1–5 players, playable in about 90 minutes, about constructing lunar bases that could become attractive places to live and work—and competing to make one the new lunar capital.
Players use pick-and-pass hand drafting to choose structure cards for their bases. Each hand represents a convoy of experts and equipment moving between outposts, giving every player a choice of one new construction each turn. Every hand also contains an Expedition card, which grants a special free action before passing to the next player.
Wooden lunar rover tokens add a worker-placement element to the construction race. Because rovers are also used to break ties, deciding when and where to use them is an important part of developing your base.
The game unfolds across three distinct eras. At the end of each era, players compete for majority in five aspects of their bases, with leaders determined by flag icons on their constructed buildings:
- Housing
- Transportation
- Science
- Industry
- Food production
The leader in each area collects bonus victory points, creating an ongoing contest to balance different parts of a growing lunar settlement. Each game also includes randomly selected Reputation cards, which provide one-time or ongoing bonuses to the player who fulfills a requirement and claims the card.
Moon is the third game in a loose trilogy preceded by Villagers and Streets. With drafting, construction, rover placement, majorities, and changing Reputation opportunities, it presents a focused race to build the most prestigious base on the Moon.
